If you feel like your EGO mower’s battery is dying – try sharpening your blade.

If your EGO battery doesn’t seem as capable as it used to – you might need to sharpen your blade. I bought this blade after beating my old blade to death with rocks and whatnot and feeling like my lawn deserved a blade that wasn’t all mangled. Now I use the original blade for the parts of the lawn that aren’t really lawn, but more of a patch of wooded area that I kind of just run the mower over. Changing the blade and sharpening it become a 5 minute ordeal once you’ve done it a few times and so I recommend getting this blade to facilitate that process.I noticed that my battery seems to mow the entire yard when I have a sharp blade – but will only sharped about 2/3 of the yard when the blade is super dull. So keep that in mind if you see people complaining about their battery not working after the first year (or two). A gas mower never runs out of battery – so the dull blade isn’t as noticeable to people who don’t pay attention to the quality of the cut.

A store manager pressured me to buy this (and the mower, obviously, and I’m so glad!!!

I bought my Ego Lawnmower in April 2018. The store manager was so sure I’d love it that he gave me an extended warranty FREE. I did it and happy I did. I cut my lawn at 3 in, and sometimes weeds or thick grass stall the mower so I just tilt it as it starts from rest for 1/2 a second. Small inconvenience since by doing so I have only used the original battery and no repairs. I’ll bet they improved things since.

The ego replacement blade was $18 more and and unavailable for shipping. So this was a far better deal. Didn’t have to drive to get and was delivered the next day.

    What a difference

My EGO mower is a little less than 3 years old, but I ran over some nice size rocks at the edge of our garden and knicked up the blades. I always have random blades of grass sticking up after mowing, no matter what direction I mowed or how much I overlapped passes. The knicks looked too bad to be able to file out, so the only option was replacing the blade.Removal of the old blade was pretty easy. Just used a 14mm ratchet and knocked it loose with a rubber mallet. I was struggling a little tightening on the new blade. The mower instruction manual says to put screwdrivers or something similar through the blade into the pulley wheel to keep the blade from turning while tightening. But the bolt kept getting tight and stopping, with way too much wiggle in the blade to be correct. I eventually figured out you need to position the washer snuggly onto the blade before beginning to tighten the bolt. Once you get your hands positioned such that you can make sure the screwdrivers and washer are held in place while using the ratchet, it’s easy from there. What a difference the new blade makes! It felt like the mower was skating across the grass effortlessly. After seeing how clean it was cutting the grass, I felt a little more confident lowering the mower one height setting for a shorter cut. There was way fewer ripped grass tips, so the lawn looks even greener than usual. And way less random missed blades standing up mocking me. I’ll definitely be making sure to sharpen the blade every season (and avoiding those garden rocks!) so I can keep it cutting like this.

    Life changing

My original blade always let grass accumulate inside the mower housing, requiring me to clean it out multiple times within a single mowing session. I tried very dedicatedly sharpening it, mowing only when conditions were dry, and moving slowly across my lawn. None of that eliminated the problem of having to stop mowing to remove large clumps of grass.Mowing with this high-lift blade is a different world. Clippings come shooting out the chute, and while the chute can get clogged up if I’m moving lots of biomass, and especially wet biomass, I feel it only happens when it’s obvious that I’m going outside the recommended operating conditions. And even then, the chute is the only bottleneck. The inside of the mower is always clean as a whistle. In short, the high-lift blade makes my Ego mower feel like it’s on equal footing with gas mowers. Hands down this should be the default blade included with Ego lawnmowers. I cannot believe that I didn’t know about this blade for two years. Seriously this is the best thirty bucks I ever spent.

This blade fit my EGO Lawn mower perfectly. You’ll need a torque wrench to install it correctly. It seems to mulch well as I have used it to mulch leaves in addition to all the weeds that make up my lawn.

El-cheapo Product – Overpriced For What It Is

This dust cover isn’t “bad,” per se. However, the material is very thin and its zipper is cheap, poor quality. It’s not a YKK zipper, and I do not expect this thing to hold up to typical garage/carport/shed storage. It seems like it will tear easily – like very easily. The zipper stitching is very poor and I expect it not to last more than a season or two, at most. For the price, one should expect a cover that is much heavier-duty and can withstand garage/shed/carport storage, along with a zipper that is much less fragile. This is more like a cheap $10 cover, not a $30 cover.Considering this brand does so well at most of its other designs, this cover is a huge disappointment. It’s a complete afterthought. It’s so cheaply-made, it really should be included along with the pricey lawnmower I purchased.Along those lines, this cheap cover should be included with the lawnmower, with a sturdier version available for purchase at this price point. Because this seriously isn’t much of an upgrade over just using an old, worn-out sheet to cover the thing. To be fair to the company, they do say it’s for dust protection only. Still, though. I did not expect this quality at this price. It’s worth 1/3 of the price, at most.I don’t hate it, but I don’t think I would purchase this again if and when it wears out.

The only thing this mower needed! You can’t live without this, I’m tellin’ ya’

There’s enough new threads about “When do we get the high lift blade???” and I even started a couple and got at least one of them closed by bitching too much about it and the lack thereof. So for something completely different. Thanks to a helpful soul here who pointed out Amazon had some – I got mine! Then it rained for 4 days and I couldn’t use it.So today I mowed my front lawn with the usual “mulching” blade and plug, and it was slightly damp, and left trails everywhere. Not a good look, no suction at all, with trails where the wheels pushed the (uncut) damp grass flat. (height set on 2 by the way)So I cleaned the mower, sprayed the underside with that liquid film stuff from Lowes, and put on my High Lift baby. And moved to the backyard.I left the mulch plug in, (yeah yeah yeah I know, and MEH to that, this is the way I roll, bag, schmag, I’m mulching) And mowed away, with about 200 magnolia leaves on the ground and a couple dozen of those cone looking things they drop. This tree has been the bane of my luxury problem life. Before we started butchering (read as, pruning) it, it would drop 150 leaves a day, all year around onto the lawn. I even had a leaf vacuum once (that was a POS) And my kid and I made bamboo poles with spikes in the end to go pick up leaves one by one. Before with the regular blade, I had to go over the lawn with a rake and any leaf even sitting sideways between the blades of grass had to be brought out of the grass and on the very tips of the to-be-mown grass. Not today, I did none of that to see what this thing will do.Well guess what? Drum roll…..Dudes (y dudettes) – I GOT LIFT! Lift, real LIFT, and SUCTION.My back lawn, mulched with the high lift blade, looks WAY WAY WAY better than my front lawn.Even the pine cone things went “munch” and turned to dust (Always had to pick them up before)No trails, the sucker sucked sh*t up and MUNCHED it. I got into the bark dust a bit once and it pulled a bunch of that up as well and chewed on it. Then I ran thru a pile of bamboo leaves and it sent teeny pieces flying everywhere. So, in the groove, I went back to the front lawn and ran back over the trails and the wheel smershed down damp grass, well if sucked/lifted that chit up and chopped it to smithereens as well. It even sucked up the grass off the sidewalk and pulverized it.Yup, da HL blade is a real thang, and it took away my only complaint with my mowa…..My mower sucks, and it’s a good thing.

Bought this so I could fill bag better

I specifically bought this so that the mower would bag the grass and leaves more effectively than the default mulch blade my mower came with. While it did have a noticable negative impact on the battery life of the mower, I wasn’t as bad as I expected and more of the debris gets bagged. It does exactly what I wanted it to and was very easy to install.

    Keeps tripping the overload sensor.

I have owned the Ego 21″ LM2102SP Self-propelled Mower since 2016. I ran it with the original AB2100 blade, which I kept sharp for years. Often I would have to go over sections twice because it often missed blades of grass, usually ones that had been pressed down by the wheels and didn’t get lifted high enough on the way back.Well, I had read many good reviews about this “Hi-lift” blades and I was excited to see how it worked. So I ordered one.Mind you, I never had a problem starting the mower… until I put this blade on it.After installing the new and pressing start, the yellow “overload” light started flashing and the motor refused to turn over.I pulled the battery. Rechecked the tightness of the installed blade. Reinserted the battery. Pressed start and “whoosh!” the sound of the whirling blade was impressive, like a large fan under my mower. I thought “Wow! That’s kinda loud compared to the old one but hey, all good if it does what it is supposed to.”The cut was good but it still missed blades of grass and I soon noticed a significant amount of vibration.I bought a blade balancing kit. Made sure that the blade was balanced and sharp and reinstalled it.Once again, the overload light came on.(I have to wait until it stops flashing- or pull and re-seat the battery- before I can try to start it again. To my frustration, this can take between 1 and 10 attempts.)When I finally got the mower running again, the vibrations were gone but the overload issues continued. For the record, the overload light didnt come on while the mower was running. It was only on failed start ups. After a few weeks of this, I re-installed my original blade. The mower has worked great since, and the extra fan noise is gone. Yeah, I still have to make extra passes for the occasional missed blades of grass but it’s ok.Only regret I have now is that I waited to long to return this “hi-lift” blade.

    It really LIFTS the grass…

Keeping the grass long in the summer creates on problem…. If you keep to the advice of not cutting more than ⅓ the grass length at a time, the grass lays matted down and therefore uneven when the dew dries off. This blade is a little louder, which is the only small negative… but it does work. Last week I ran too close to a rubberized outdoor mat and it sucked it under and shredded it – Like I said, it works!

Powerful Battery and easy to use.

EGO self propelled mower is easy to use and does a great job cutting the lawn. The blade it comes with is fine if you don’t use a bag but I got the uplift blade and it is a game changer when bagging. the mower should come with this blade. That’s my only complaint.

The only problem is getting the old one off!

I love my Ego mower and have many other tools using the same batteries. I have beat the heck out of the mower and replaced the blade at least three times now as I didn’t find it that easy to sharpen them and didn’t want to mess with it. It’s been plugging along for more than 10 years by now!

    Make sure it’s installed correctly!

I am going to swallow my pride on this review and start by saying I am incredibly embarrassed to admit this, but it happened. In the haste of everyday life, at the end of mowing season last fall, I sharpened my original blade and reinstalled it and stored away my mower. Last fall, I completely ripped up the old lawn (mostly weeds), tilled, added compost, raked and seeded a brand new lawn. Between the tilling and compost, the fescue I planted grew like nothing I’ve ever seen, so much so, I ended up having to mow several times throughout the winter (I live in NC)!! The struggle began after the first mow. I did wait until it was pretty long to make sure it was well established and my Ego just wasn’t able to do the job. I kept having to clear underneath the platform, there was no suction (less than 25% of clippings made it into the bag) and all sections matted by the wheels would not lift. I was at a total loss. I had started to look at gas mower and as I was doing so decided to look at blades. I found this one and figured what the heck, it couldn’t possibly be any worse. It arrived two days later and as I removed the old blade, I had a head scratcher moment because when I turned the bolt I noticed my hand would have gone directly into the blade had the wrench slipped. Yep, you guessed it. I put the original blade on backwards!! In my defense, I am a very adept DIYer but this one was a tough pill to swallow. Go ahead, call me an idiot, I deserve it. That being said, I am willing to be a little self deprecating if it helps someone else because some of the reviews I’ve read sound very similar to the issues I was dealing with and we’re all human. Check your blade! Lastly, I did install the new blade (correctly) and it is AMAZING! My love for my Ego mower is fully restored. My yard isn’t that big (.2 acres) so the batteries have plenty of juice for me to finish but it does sound louder which doesn’t bother me. I still don’t feel the need to wear hearing protection like I did with my old gas mower. Finally, instead of having to clear the platform and picking up grass clumps, I’m now only having to empty the bag and gladly I might add. I’m ready for spring and glad to have my sanity back.

    Update: Figured it out

I tired to cut my grass and the blade does not move.Doesnt matter how low or how high the blade is. How fast or how slow you go. Then on top of that I sent a message before my purchase and asked if I didnt like the mower, if I could return and they said yes. Now, Im getting, cant return. For this much money and the blade is crap, I should be able to return with no uses, but 1 to try the mower out.**UPDATE: After watching many online videos, I figured it out. Thank goodness I don’t have to return..yet.

Bad first impression but got much better

Updated review:Did more study and had a long talk with the mower. Also bought the upgrade blade. Combined, the two approaches made a world of difference. Still a heavier machine than I expected but certainly manageable. The new blade both cuts and creates good suction. Feeling much better about the purchase.Old Review:Just tried it out after charging and setting up. I may need to update this after I become more acquainted with it but initial impression not so good. Even in self-propelled mode, in short grass, it was heavy to push. And, again my first impression, it didn’t seem to cut a dang thing or lift any leaves or anything (even at the lowest height setting). Probably need to read over the manual AGAIN. If this is baseline, I may have to sell and go back to gas!

    Easy install

This was a replacement for original blade. Helpful hint…to remove old blade which had the bolt frozen in place, I bought a little 7$ butane torch and heated the bolt. This allowed me to loosen it and replace with this blade. We will see how long it lasts. Gave 4 of 5 because I’m not sure of the longevity of the blade/sharpness.

    LM2102 SP, 56 volt, 7.5 Ah

I came close to buying this several times but was always stopped by poor battery reviews. I took a chance anyway, as Amazon lumps all the battery sizes and Ah’s together when being reviewed. I’m glad I saw through the clutter, as I ran it today for the first time (just received it yesterday (in pristine condition).I charged the battery out of the box as instructed. I set it on the second highest cutting length as snow is right around the corner. I had cut grass last week (and mulched) with my garden tractor, so there was not much grass to cut off, in all honesty. However, I ran the self-propel setting the entire time and mulched the entire time (it came out of the box already set for mulch). I have 18 trees in the yard so there was no shortage of leaves to contend with. I adjusted the walk-behind speed to my liking, and it’s a great feature that is easy to keep up with. I mowed for 40 minutes and cut an area 60 x 160. The light was still showing green when I finished! I cut the power, hit the green start button again and gripped the self propel switch. It took me up a 30 degree path to the storage shed without the blade running and it climbed like a Blue Angel! I took the battery inside and put it in the quick recharge to see how much power I had left. Unbelievably I still had 2 1/2 green lights blinking out of 5!! I was shocked (again, admitting the grass was easy to cut). By the way, it did a excellent job at mulching, even at the high setting. There would have been no leaves escaping had I set the height a bit lower. I cleaned it with a quick pass of the leaf blower and will wait impatiently until spring for a chance to show off this baby full-time. I’m thinking I might even pay the neighbors for the opportunity to run this in their yard. 🙂

    Nice cover.

This cover is great for storage of the lawn mower. Keeps dust off and makes it look tidy in the garage.

Cheap metal, just like the original blade. Disappointed.

Some reviews here say the blade durability is better than the factory original. I have to disagree. Mine was typical, modern-day import, soft metal quality. After using it to cut my tract-home size lawn twice, I discovered the blade had a surprisingly large ding and several smaller ones. The only thing I hit was an old, rotted corn cob and small tree twigs. The suction also is weak, just like the original. EGO is disappointing.

This blade was a great buy.

I purchased the EGO Power+ AB2101 high lift blade about a month ago and have mowed my lawn a few times since changing out the original blade for this one.I have always bagged my grass with this mower and, to be honest, never felt by using the original blade that I was lacking anything or that my mowing results were substandard. But after using this blade I realized exactly what I was missing; suction! The superior suction provided by this blade leaves a much cleaner, more even result. There are significantly fewer grass blade “stragglers” left behind since this high lift blade really does a great job of lifting up the grass blades when mowing. For reference, my mower blade height is 2 inches. The other natural benefit is that debris on the lawn are also suctioned up. This is most evident with the leaves that are starting to fall on the lawn. After a single pass over each section of my lawn, all the leaves on that path are suctioned up into the bag. As an added illustration of the suction power, sometimes I’ll drop a little grass on the driveway when emptying the bag into the trashcan. Previously, I would clean up the clippings by hand or sweep them away. Now I just fire up the mower and move it over the clippings and it suctions it all up into the bag. Awesome!I will add that the mower seems to be a tiny bit louder than when using the original blades. However, it’s a worthwhile tradeoff for the benefits gained. As far as battery usage, I have not noticed a decline in the amount of run-time available when using the high lift blade. I usually spend about 1 hour and 15 minutes mowing a 1/3 acre lawn and I’m still able to do that on one fully charged battery.I’m really pleased with this purchase. In short, if you bag, this blade is a must-buy. It provides far superior suction compared to the original blade.

Much better than the one that came with the mower

We purchased this after our last blade took some knicks. This is much better. I have the factory edge on it still and it cuts well. The suction is much better, you can hear it.I like the way my grass looks after I cut it, but I can still see frayed ends on the grass, which makes me wish it was sharper, but I’m not as crazy about mowing as some. So it does the job.I have a 21” self propelled ego mower.

    It works.

My Ego LM2125SP mower came with the mulching blade with works just fine for mulching. But, Some of the stuff I cut requires the discharge chute or bagging. The high lift blade sucks in more air and discharges the clipping WAY better than the mulching blade. When I have half a bag of clippings before, they were just bunched up at the front of the bag like they were barely making it into the bag. Now, they are all the way to the back of the bag making it easy to get the bag actually full before emptying. With the side discharge tube installed, the grass shoots out as opposed to just falling out or clogging up in high grass. Well worth the money.

    THIS SHOULD BE REQUIRED UPGRADE

Wow! Wow! Wow! This is the lawn mower that I wanted all along. The marketing hype says the eGO has the power of a gas mower, but it never really lived up to that hype for me even though I have resharpened my original blade several times. But this High Lift Blade does everything that the mower is supposed to do. This is like having a brand-new mower all over again. The suction helps cut cleaner, better, and easier. And it fills the bag completely before even a few blades accumulate in the chute instead of requiring me to stop every few passes to reach down and pull grass out of the chute into the bag. This alone has saved so much time and frustration. Therefore, I give this High Lift Blade my highest recommendation.

So much better than the original blade that came with the mower

This blade is truly the difference between night and day.I don’t know why it doesn’t come standard with the mower… oh yes I do ($$$).With this new blade, the mower acts more like a mower/vacuum, which is like my gas mower use to be,I never have to sweep-up after cutting, the mower does it all now, and that’s why this blade gets 5 stars.

    Great Improvement

I was very happy with my EGO mower. Then I saw this blade that adds a vacuum effect?Well, I thought I would try it hoping that it might improve mowing those pesky blades of grass that tend to lie at angles rather than straight up.I wondered if the added drag imposed by the blade’s increased moving the air upward might either slow down the rotation or drain battery more quickly. When mowing with this new blade, I did notice the grass being cut a little more evenly even though there were still some leaners that resisted cutting. The motor seems to spin at the same speed as before although that might be my perception not being able to test side by side.My lawn is nowhere large enough to tax the capacity of the battery, so I have no information about comparing battery life. So that is not a big issue for me.When I finished mowing and dumped the clippings bag, I noticed a great increase in the number of fallen tree leaves that the new blade picked up compared with the original blade. Fallen leaves used to tend to build up and gather at the soil level. Picking more of these leaves before they settle is a real plus. This aspect alone is more than reason to have switched to this new blade.

I like this blade better that the blade that came with the mower

I like my EGO mower. Seemed to do a pretty good job mowing even though I do not cut as often as I should. I do believe that it seems to cut better on cutting level 3.With the blade that came with the mower, I thought it only did a fair job of producing enough vacuum in lifting debris out of the turf. So, a clump of grass from the last mowing would probably remain in the turf rather than being pulled up and chopped up again in one’s current mowing. As a result, I decided to try the high lift blade. The high lift blade does produce more vacuum. And I think it does a better job of mulching on my Wisconsin lawn than the lower lift blade that comes on the mower. Now that we’re in “leaf season” it also picks those up and cracks them down into smaller pieces.I have a relatively large lawn, and I did find that the higher lift blade does use more battery power. Once, my power was exhausted before completing my mow. Only once. I think I really overdid waiting on the mow, so this was a lot of work for the whole system. Simple swap to my other battery and I finished up. Hasn’t happened since.

Great upgrade, should be the blade the mower comes with!

I made the switch to an electric mower a couple of years ago with an Ego 21” power mower. It did the job alright but I did notice that sometimes it would lay over longer grass and also didn’t “suck up” the grass that was pressed flat by the wheels on the previous pass. I decided to try out the high lift blade for this season and I’m VERY glad I made the switch! Changed out the blade for the first mow of the season and was pleasantly surprised at the difference in performance. Sucked up the grass for a more uniform cut. Also sucked up leaves and clippings from trimming better than before. I also noticed that the bagging was better. The grass was blown to the back of the bag and none left laying in the chute. Made for a cleaner removal of the bag and could fill the bag more before needing to dump it.The swap out was easy, just a bolt and washer. You can see from the picture the difference in the blade profile and how much more of a “wing” is behind the cutting edges to creat the extra lift.Overall very happy with this new blade. Highly recommend the upgrade for anyone still using the original “standard” blade.

    Excellent mower

I was very surprised at the incredible power. It is sturdy, easy to maneuver and does a beautiful cut. I have used many gas lawnmowers and was worried it would not have as much power. I had nothing to be concerned about. I am able to cut a half acre on one charge. No more gas, oil change, spark plug change or air filters! Also, very easy to start. Highly recommend!

Just a great mower and mulcher

Ok, so I bought this thing in late February and I thought I would wait to review it after I had mowed a couple times. Simply put, it is the best mower I’ve ever owned. My yard isn’t a prairie, but it’s about 150 x 170 in the back with a mild slope, about the same in the front and flat. I can do both yards with plenty of battery to space. Mostly I just push in the front for exercise. My first mowing, the grass was getting pretty shaggy. The mower never slowed at all, no sign of strain. Was it more than I’ve paid for mowers in the past? Sure, but not belching smoke or bothering the neighbors and hauling a gas can for fill-ups. I love this thing. Next step, an Ego snow blower.

    Major upgrade

I’ve had my EGO Mower for 3 seasons and I bought it pre-owned, so the blade was way overdue for sharpening or replacement. Because we have tall fescue, our grass blades are usually cut at 4”. But the blades often “roll over” and the regular blade would just go over them. And, as others have noticed, in tall grass the regular blade would routinely leave strips of grass making ugly stripes. Now comes the “lift”blade. Even my wife noticed the difference. A smoother, more even cut. No stripes. And while it didn’t pick up all the leaves in my yard, it was far more effective than the original blade. The strands of grass sticking up also were reduced. I didn’t notice an increase in battery drain or loudness. But my yard is rather small. With a little help from WD40, the blade was a snap to change.

    Good to go!

Perfect fit and easy to install. The 21 inch lawn mower blade was for a EGO POWER MOWER 56V ModelLM2100SP. Works great.

    Smooth

It is one amazing machine.Heavier than I expected but with the self propelled feature you don’t even notice it. I have used gas all these years and thought why not give it a try, since I’m getting up in years and other than the weight I wasn’t disappointed. My lawn takes 45 minutes to mow and the battery showed no signs of slowing down.Very smooth machine.

    Best battery mower?

Light weight and moves well. Battery lasts 60 minutes. Cuts grass efficiently. Not great at bagging leaves but average. No assembly required. Pretty solid mower thus far.

    Wow, what a change!

To be fair, I was still using the OEM blade for almost 7 years, so really any change to the blade was going to be great. That said, I was skeptical that it would make as much a difference as others have claimed. Pleasantly surprised it exceeded expectations! Absolutely the biggest differences are bagging and ground clippings. Shoots the grass way back in the bag and barely leaves any trace of loose grass on the ground. I usually fill 3 bags, but easily stayed within just 2 because of how well it kept things compact for me. Unsure if because if new blade or the added lift, but the grass is very consistent and level. The first image is just mowed, and the 2nd image is after 2 days. That grass is looking almost like turf. I agree with someone else, I wish this were the default blade.
