    I have no experience.

I have zero experience with grass. This was my first time and I wanted to have grass in a very small area. I tried these seeds and it took over 3 weeks to see the result. The only thing I did was watering them once a day.So technically, if you have no experience and knowledge you can still enjoy the green grass easily with these seeds.

    Very pleased

I got great results with this when doing a complete lawn renovation on about 1,500 sq ft. However, I did a lot of things to ensure good germination and growth. Seeding date: Sept. 26, soil temps were low 60s, air temps were low 70s. I lightly tilled the top layer of soil, spread about 15% more seed than the recommended rate, lightly raked the seed into the soil for good seed-to-soil contact, applied Tenacity as a pre-emergent against weeds, and added a starter fertilizer all on the day of seeding. Then was extremely consistent with watering for the first two weeks, tapering off after plants reached a couple of inches. I got first seedlings in 7 days, and the tallest plants are now 4.5+ inches at 25 days. Some plants must have been slow starters, since about 10% of plants are under 1.5 inches at 25 days. I’m guessing around 85% of the seed germinated successfully. Average air temps over those 25 days was low 60s, with only a couple nighttime dips into the mid 40s. Sorry the photos aren’t from the same angle, it’s harder to compare. But the before and after are of the same section of yard, just the after is taken from the front porch

Good quality seed for a variety of conditions

I got this to address some areas of patchy grass growth as well as a couple areas that were dug up due to the install of some drainage. The seeds are coated in some type of blue mixture, which I presume is a type of fertilizer. The only downside is that if you handle the seeds, you will get blue on your hands. The seed is easy to spread and for the most part works as well as any other brand of seed. This is, of course, dependent on environmental conditions. You should not plant in extremely hot or cold conditions and what I have found that works best is to cover the seed either in play sand or some type of light mulch or grass clippings to help keep the seed in place as rain can easily wash the seed away.If planted properly, the seed grows well and works as it is supposed to do. You may have to reseed and overseed depending on how thick you want the grass to grow. I think this provides a good mix of seed for all types of sun conditionsI do think the seed is a big more expensive than other brands, but not extremely.4 stars

    It actually worked!

I was certain that this large area of dirt that had been covered by the shade of a tree was not going to grow back with the rest of the grass this spring. I planted the seeds at the end of January and here we are at the end of March. It says it’s for northern lawns, but I live in Texas and it worked great! Doesn’t exactly match the rest of the grass but I’m grateful to have grass period lol

Spring over seeding in shade areas and under trees got to admit it’s my first time ever experienced this growth rate. This seeds are almost 99.9% guaranteed to germinate if you follow the instructions.

    Overall pretty good

Update: I put the grass seed down last fall (see original review below). It is now April 19 and my grass is looking amazing. See the pics for evidence of how great it looks now. If you do things the right way you should have a really nice lawn with this grass seed. It fills in nicely. How well grass comes in from seed has a lot to do with what the person putting it down does before, during, and after putting it down as well as the time of year. With that said, I tilled up the soil beforehand, I put down starter fertilizer with the grass seed, covered it with peat moss, and watered it twice a day, never letting it dry out. I put the seed down on Sept. 16 in zone 6 when the temps were mostly in the 70s during the day and 50s and 60s at night. In some areas, the grass came in nice and thick and in other areas, it came in quite sparse. There were a few big bare spots, but upon further inspection, it looks like the squirrels ate the seed in those areas so I put more down. However, the seed is still there and still not much grass even after 10 days. For the most part, I started seeing the grass come up on day 7. The package says 5-10 days, so that seems right. Overall, I’m happy with it. I just think the germination rate in some areas should’ve been higher since some areas came in nice and full. I do like that this is a hybrid mix where the grass should spread on its own. Looking forward to it filling in more and more. I got plenty of compliments on my new grass from neighbors. Will be buying again in the future for the next area I plan to redo next fall.

20 pounds covered less than 2000 square feet and had weeds

Update: 08/23My lawn grew in nicely as shown in the second picture (thanks to daily watering)… BUT I now have Yellow Nutsedge weeds (which took me a while to identify because I’ve never seen them before in my area – ever). These weeds are only in the spots where I seeded and nowhere else. Where I seeded the heaviest, there are the most Yellow Nutsedge weeds. Grass seed can contain these weeds and they’re very hard to control. I can’t prove that my seeds were contaminated with Yellow Nutsedge but the prima facia evidence indicates that it was likely.04/23: The bag says that this covers up to 8000 square feet but when used as instructed, it only covers about 2000 square feet. I used a brand new Scotts rotary spreader (set at 9 per the instructions) and barely got one pass over a 2000 square foot area. The instructions say to make two passes but that was out of the question.I later purchased an additional 40 pound bag of the same seed to complete the job totaling 60 pounds to cover 4500 square feet (~418m sq). I used Scotts’ online app which uses satellite imagery and allow you to trace out your lawn and get an area estimate.I tilled the soil first and then seeded and fertilized it with another Scotts product for new lawns. Finally, I covered it with a layer of sphagnum peat moss. I set my irrigation system to water every day for double the usual.Note: My 20 pound bag was $97 April 1, 2023.

    Grows Good Grass Really Well!

My lawn is partially shaded by a lovely olive tree, so I didn’t expect much from my purchase – but was totally and pleasantly surprised and delighted!Little pricey for the size of the bag – and I suggest using more than is recommended per area – but these seeds absolutely produce thick, mowable grass with no bare patches. Finally – a beautiful lawn!

    Buying more!

I was a little nervous after reading reviews but still gave it a chance. I raked the area really well to rough the dirt a bit, threw down the seed and watered it daily. I actually watered it twice daily because we have a lot of wind and I didn’t want it moving around much. It started to grow within a couple weeks. Once it was about 3-4” tall I started cutting it. That was summer of 2022. We are in northern maine so it gets cold & snowy early and lasts till May so I was unsure if it would continue to grow this year because several reviews said it died after a year. The grass this year looks great!! It’s a bit darker than the rest of the yard but very soft grass. I am going to buy more next year to fix some other spots in the yard. Very happy with it!

Works Great for Creating a Fairway Type Lawn for Golf Practice

I live in the country so taking care of my lawn is not a high priority. I do not believe it watering a lawn and cut only when it needs to be cut. I am all about low maintenance when it comes to lawn care. That said now and then repairs are needed and having a good an easy to use dependable seed and one that grows in sun or shade, is a must for me. I have tried a number of different types of seed over the years and came across this brand and mix at a local hardware store and it seemed to work out very well for those occasional repairs and patching projects. It grows fast and fills in pretty thick which helps keep weeds at bay in new areas and over-seeding in the fall seems to help choke out weeds in the spring before they get a chance to take root – for the most part anyway. The summer of 2021 I started to take back up golfing and I practice in my back yard which is about an acre. When using irons it is typical to take a divot which, if you hit as many balls as I do, sometimes 200+ a session, can do some serous damage to your lawn over time. To fix these areas I started using the Scotts Turf Builder Sun and Shade Mix. I decided to create a large area, about 1800 sq ft to use just for practicing. The idea being to practice in one spot then repairing that spot after practice is done and moving to an adjacent spot. I researched the type of seed used for fairways on golf courses and this mix is about the same and seems to work really well. The area varies in the amount of sun and shade and this mix works well in that regard too.I have tried a few methods to do repairs. I tried raking with a stiff rake to loosen the soil then sprinkling the seeds on top and re-raking it with a leaf rake to spread the seed evenly which worked fine, but I found that when watering it’s too easy to wash the seeds from one area creating spotty growth. It does fill in eventually, but I wanted a method that would be quicker and guarantee even growth. What seems to work best is to fill any deep holes with soil, put down a soil/seed mix, then cover it a small layer of soil to help retain the moisture and tap it down lightly with my foot. I keep a bucket witha mix of top soil and sand and another with a top soil+sand+seed mix that I use just for this purpose. I water two to three times a day with a hose or watering can with a sprinkler head. This method also works well to repair any urine spots my dog makes. It does require flushing the spot real good with water and baking soda first to lower the acidity of the soil.I cut this area with a push reel mower which allows me to cut it real low. Which is another plus to this blend in that it can be cut very low without any problems. However, I normally keep it a little longer in new areas so not to stress the new growth.Since the area is so large area I decided to buy the seed in a larger quantity (20 lb) and found it on Amazon for a real good price. I ended up getting a second bag so I could over seed the area before winter. When over-seeding, I normally just spread it by hand although I have used a hand held spreader too. This worked very well and I was amazed at how dense it was in the spring.Overall I am very pleased with this seed. It is very easy to use, requires minimal maintenance and looks great. If you are looking for a low maintenance seed that is easy to use and grows quickly in sun or shade this will work very well.

    Impressive Results

I’ll admit, I was skeptical despite reading reviews about Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. I just couldn’t believe it would actually make my grass grow quickly. My front yard had suffered from excessive sun exposure, leaving it looking brown and unsightly. Desperate for a solution, I decided to give this product a try.To my amazement, within just a few days, I started to see new grass sprouting up – vibrant and green. It was a sight for sore eyes! And now, after only a week, the results are truly impressive. I can already imagine how beautiful my front yard will look in just a couple more weeks! This product has exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s transformed my lawn from dull to dazzling in no time at all. If you’re facing similar issues with your grass, don’t hesitate to give this product a shot – you won’t regret it!

The only Scotts seed product that actually worked

I live in Eastern Mass.I’ve tried “Think’R’ Lawn”…..did nothing. Then tried “EZ SEED Patch Repair”, which burnt the patchy spots and made them worse, thank you Scotts! This Northern Seed Mix (and Tall Fescue Mix) was the only Scotts’ seeds that actually worked. I have a large lawn (approx 7K ft2), some of which had absolutely no grass. Take a look at the images, some of those areas used to have no grass. The seeds alone do not work, however. They need to be covered with top soil (1/2″ or 1cm would do), or they do not grow. I watered my lawn every day for 6 weeks (took less than a week to see the grass starting to grow) and now the lawn is half way restored (still watering whenever I can). It still has patchy areas, for which I’ll wait until spring and then spread Northern Seed Mix again to full restoration. I bought the 32 lbs bags twice, and I assume I’ll need 2 more 32 lbs bags in the spring for a full restoration. I used Scotts’ Elite spreader (it is not really “Elite” but average). I could not afford to install a sprinkler system, so I bought 2nd Sun Joe pressure washer to cover the entire lawn. Like anything else, preparation is the most critical step (mow your lawn to the lowest setting, remove leaves/FODs, aerate the soil and water the lawn before spreading the seeds…..it is a hard & time consuming work). The price fluctuation is quite annoying, however. I buy them when they are $106~$120 and stay away when the price spikes to $160.I used Lowes’ Sta Green Top Soil, which only has 3-star rating at Lowes. I don’t know what other people did with it, but it worked for me and was the most reasonably priced product for the amount of fertilized soil. I used Landzie’s Compost & Peat Moss Spreader to spread the top soil.

Surviving Extreme Weather Conditions with a Pleasant Surprise

Let me tell you about my experience with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. I’ll start by saying that I give it a 3 out of 5 stars review. So, I live in an area with extreme weather conditions. It’s hot and dry during the summer months and cold and snowy in the winter. And let’s not forget the occasional thunderstorms that roll through. My lawn has always been a struggle to maintain. I’ve tried different grass seeds before but none of them seemed to survive the weather changes. So, I decided to give Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix a try.The first thing I noticed when I opened the bag was the pleasant smell. It was like the grass seeds had been infused with some kind of pleasant scent. It wasn’t overpowering, just a nice touch. I followed the instructions and spread the seeds evenly over my lawn. The seeds were easy to spread and I didn’t have any issues with clumping or uneven distribution. Now, here’s where things got interesting. A few days after I spread the seeds, we had a massive thunderstorm. It was the kind of storm where the wind is so strong that it feels like your house is going to blow away. I was worried about my new grass seeds but to my surprise, they held up pretty well. I mean, there were some areas where the seeds had washed away but overall, they were still there.Over the next few weeks, I watered the lawn regularly and watched as the grass started to sprout. It was exciting to see it come to life. However, I did notice that the grass wasn’t as thick as I had hoped it would be. I followed the instructions on the bag but maybe I should have used more seeds.Fast forward a few months and my lawn is looking pretty good. The grass is green and healthy but there are still a few areas where it’s a bit thin. Overall, I’m happy with the results. Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix is definitely durable and can withstand extreme weather conditions. However, it didn’t spread as much as I had hoped it would. Now, let me tell you about the funny part of my experience with this grass seed. As I mentioned before, my lawn is located in an area with extreme weather conditions, which includes occasional windstorms. One day, I came home to find that a portion of my newly seeded lawn had been blown away by a strong wind gust. I was devastated to see that all of my hard work had gone to waste.Feeling defeated, I contacted the customer service department at Scotts to see if they could offer any advice on how to prevent this from happening again. To my surprise, they were very helpful and even sent me a replacement bag of seeds free of charge. With my new bag of seeds in hand, I decided to take a different approach. Instead of spreading the seeds all at once, I decided to spread them in small sections over a period of time. This helped ensure that the seeds were able to take root and withstand any windstorms that may come my way.Additionally, one thing that I appreciate about Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix is that it is designed to grow in both sunny and shady areas. This is great for people like me who have a mix of both in their lawn. The seeds are also coated with a special ingredient that helps them absorb water, which promotes healthy and consistent growth.Another thing that I found helpful about this product is that the packaging provides clear instructions on how to properly apply the seeds. It also includes information on how to care for your lawn once the seeds have been planted. This is especially helpful for those who are new to lawn care or may not have much experience with grass seeds. While I did have some issues with the thickness of the grass, I have to say that the overall quality of the grass that did grow was impressive. It was thick, lush, and healthy. It also felt soft and comfortable to walk on, which is a major plus if you have kids or pets who like to play on the lawn.In terms of value, I think that the 20 lb bag of Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix is priced fairly. It is not the cheapest grass seed on the market, but it is also not the most expensive. I think that the quality of the product justifies the price. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a grass seed that can survive extreme weather conditions, Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix is worth a try. Just keep in mind that you may need to use more seeds to get the thickness you want. Oh, and the pleasant smell is a nice bonus!

After a few months it looks amazing

I did a lot of prep work before I laid the grass seed. I pulled all the weeds, rented a tiller and turned up all the dirt, mixed new soil with native soil, rolled it out, spread the grass seed, put a layer of topper above the seed, and rolled it out again. After 9 days of watering 2-3 times a day I did not see any growth and it was a terrible feeling. After 11 days, I was absolutely thrilled to see little grass chutes everywhere. The grass started to come in slowly and a bit patchy. i put more seed in the patchy areas. After about 2 months it started to look filled in. This photo is about 3-4 months after laying the seed. We’ve had a good amount of rain here in So Cal and that has helped. Good luck with your grass growing!

Different seeds than the smaller bag

I bought this mix in the smaller weight bag to test it out. It worked very well! I watered it as recommended, prepared the soil… and grass has been sprouting! Unfortunately, I bought the bigger bag because I was so happy with the results, that way I could cover the rest of the area I prepared. I opened the bag and immediately noticed the difference in color. The smaller bag was blue and green and this bag just blue. Additionally, the bag was mainly blue dust. There were seeds of course but mostly just a ton of powder spewing everywhere. I still gave it a go and have done exactly the same as with the other bag. All I see are blue seeds still. With the amount of powder in the bag as well, I pretty much only got the smaller amount anyway. Clearly there is a different production for weights and that’s very unfortunate. Not sure how to return this product…so we will see what I have to do to fix it.

    Grew fast but fairly patchy

So this did indeed sprout when they said it would. They have a pic on the bag that shows what it should look like (top view) after a couple different time periods. Mine does look a lot like the pictures. The reason I knocked the star off was because so much of the seed didn’t sprout. This is a new lawn and has new soil and I personally watered it several times a day. It came in very patchy. It’s been 6 weeks now and I can still see a lot of the unsprouted seed on the dirt. Can’t imagine I did anything wrong since it grew fine in other less-ideal areas. I’ll over-sow this fall and see if that thickens it up.

    Grows anywhere

Love this stuff. Throw it down and water it in. In Texas, it grows in sun or partial shade and stays green throughout the winter. The Bermuda grass and St Augustine brown, but this doesn’t. Makes me want to do the whole yard

    Fast growing grass!

The media could not be loaded.

I’ve never had grass before! This was all dirt with rocks. I did little prep by roughing up the dirt a bit then threw the seeds and watered them. This is the progress after almost 2 weeks. I’m really excited now and I’m wondering if I need to get another bag for sparse areas.

    Grass improving

These seeds took slightly longer to germinate due to our cool weather. But as soon as it warmed up (about 60)and the sun was out I started noticing little sprouts. I get compliments on my grass all the time. This is the only seed I’ll use I also use Scott’s Lawn Soil which works great with this seed. I literally mix the soil and seed together and spread where needed. I did dethatch my lawn the winter leaves the grasses matted. The lawn soil has a starter fertilizer in it and that helps the seed tremendously. And of course you should water in thoroughly early morning or in the evening. Hopefully this helps with your grass growing needs. The price was great compared to Home Depot or any of the other garden/hardware stores in our area.

    I’ve got grass

After five bags under different brand names, during recent years, finally I have new grass growing out front under the trees. Unfortunately, Winter came along and pushed everything to the ground. I can still see remnants of green. This is good seed; it may be underground for the winter season, but there’s gonna be grass in the Spring. Besides, I have half a bag remaining.

    This stuff works !!

Ok let me show you the Before and after photos . We bought our house in January but we looked at the house in October when they put it up for sale and it was horrible the grass was 5 % only in the backyard and weeds all over front yard had patches all over and thin grass . This took about 4 months to achieve . You must water e wry single day twice a day for a couple of months or it won’t grow . We had a sprinkler system installed front and back and have it on everyday watering. Be patient and you deffff will see results but watering is key! 2-3 times a day especially summer time !My backyard and Front yard are beautiful now !!! I get sooo many compliments on my lawn now !!

Good Grass Seed for Tough Locations

According to The Spruce and other review sites that I checked this grass seed was going to be best for shady locations and hard to grow areas. I took a risk and ordered it. I followed the instructions to the letter but I had some severe drawbacks about my situation. I planted in summer which is not ideal. The dirt was all carolina red clay which is not ideal. The location only gets direct sun for 2 hours a day with tree shade the rest of the day. I am delighted to announce that this seed grew anyway! Thanks to a wonderful thunderstorm on day 3 and and some good watering each day I have a wonderful new crop of grass on the fill dirt berm that I needed to cover in my back yard! It’s expensive and you have to follow the directions but it will work!

    Pretty happy with the results.

I live out in the middle of the woods and my yard was filled with gravel and stones. Didn’t have much hope for any grass growing but I was very very happy with the results of this product. You can kind of see in the pictures what my yard looked like before I planted the grass. This was just a trial run. Planning on buying more now that I know that it will grow in my ground . Removing all of the moss was probably the hardest part of the whole ordeal. Only issue now that I didn’t have before. Is that the neighbor’s dogs are killing my grass by peeing on it which apparently is common with female dogs.

    No germination

I have used this product in the past on two different yards and it worked great! But this last time I used it on two different client’s yards for a time sensitive house listing and I got ZERO germination from the package. I aerated. Spread compost. Spread seed. Rolled it lightly. No idea what happened here. I even did a second seeding but nothing. I would have given it zero stars, but it worked in the past. I don’t know if I just got a bad batch?

some tips to help save you some green

I have tried 5 bags of Scotts grass seed so far.The high traffic works well If you can stay off of it till it’s cut the second time of growth of 3 to 4 inch. All and all all of the Scotts seed works well in my yard. I live in Ozarks of Missouri with bad dirt and digging is all rock. I ordered 2 loads of in topsoil and a 1/2 load of sand leveled it to a depth of 4 inch. Tilling it after leveling it works great to mix the sand and topsoil.I spread seed by hand because I know my walking areas need a little more.I work in the back yard a lot! I got Scotts to grow where no other seed has grown. Them areas that get 2 hours full sun right at noon till about 2pm then it’s mostly shady again. and mind you I have black walnuts falling on them all spring till fall. I have a few spots where it’s full sun dawn till dusk, as well as morning sun to afternoon shade. and vice versa My grass was the best in the spring. Thick and green. like a carpet. Mid summer I got a few dead spots due to lack of water and walking over day after day. this fall right before the snow fall I will sow new seed in earth with grass booster so it’s growing at the first melt of spring. Freezing seed should not harm it. It will have all that nice melt water that has been locked in freeze all winter long. the yard will be muddy and not good for walking in mud trying to plant seeds. The best part other than no muddy shoes is that all that first few waterings is all free. Watering grass by late day when all them blood suckers are trying to eat you is when I water the grass. I catch about 400 gallons of rainwater for my grass and garden. I use it before I will the city water. The grass and garden loves it most. my pocket book will too.Grass loves and needs water once every day just to live, twice a day to thrive. Remember that!Don’t cut grass in the heat of day or water or you can burn it. water mornings or late afternoons. Keep grass cut to 2 inch for best bugs prevention. cutting grass weekly even if it don’t need it. (trust me)Notes for even more free water is a water splitter on sinks and bathtubs/showers. and the washing machine too. Plants dont mind a little soapy water. Plus you will not get grub worms and moles after them grub worms. Less bugs of all kinds. If you got grub worms use dawn dish soap them grubs will all die and the grass won’t mind one bit. (Trust me)Well I hope you will try the free water ideals. My pocket book is thicker just like my grass. a little work but you will save more money with each year, as the cost of water and everything else keeps going up. spending a little now saves you hundreds later. (trust me)

    HOA can’t fine me now

When you live in an arid climate with water restrictions keeping lawns as green as required by the HOA gets a little difficult. Many seed options come with fertilizer and soil softeners which is fine too, but sometimes you really want to lay it on thick, and you can’t use that other stuff because it’ll over-fertilize and kill your grass more dead than it is already. My grass was thinning and completely dirt in a couple spots, so this is what I did:1. Follow the instructions on the bag. Rake up the yard and remove as much dead stuff as possible.2. For the totally dead spots, loosen the soil as much as possible. (Instructions say 1″ but i just used a leaf rake to stir it up a tad. an actual rake might have worked better to get deeper).3. Lay the seed on thick in the barren areas, and sprinkle/cover lightly with some potting soil4. use a seed spreader on the read of your lawn or thinner areas but where grass is still growing.Water, water, water, water, water.the HOA seems to have a faster response and more direct control over your house and property than the city, so if you have water restrictions by the city, I’d say, don’t risk the HOA coming down on you more than worrying about the city. (Also, residential water consumption in our area is really only about 5% of water use so cutting back or splurging a bit on water is a literal drop in the bucket compared to the agricultural use in the state.)– Water enough for your climate to keep the soil from drying out and decertifying completely. For me this was twice a day; very early in the morning, before sunrise, then at dusk just before it was too dark to see.– Repeat this and re-sprinkle seed for a week– Keep watering for several weeks, as per the instructions. You’ll start to see grass babies rising up and filling in those dead spots. There’s probably a best time of year to optimize your chances of success. I started in July thinking it’d be too late, but it’s half way into August and the grass is filling in just fine, hopefully thick enough and rooted enough to survive winter when it gets here.

This works you have to prep correctly

Are you kidding me, I actually can’t believe how well this worked!!!! I didn’t want to pay for sod but I hated the dead grass… you have to properly prep in order for the seed to grow. I removed all the dead grass, it took me 6 hours straight… pain in the a** but it’s worth it. Then I tilled the soil by gently raking it. Didn’t put much effort in just went over it a couple times. Softly watered it just a tiny bit for it to have some moisture. I spread the seed with a hand spreader (got it from Amazon) then I laid a very thin layer of top soil over the seed. Not too much, you don’t want the seed to be too deep. I don’t even think it was 1/2 an inch. I sprinkled the top soil by hand. Then consistent watering is key. I have two sprinklers because of how my lawn is an “L shape” I only have one water spicket, so I bought one of those dual faucet connectors (can’t remember official name) got that from Amazon too. Kept the sprinklers in position until it was fully grown in and watered every day twice a day. I’m in Denver and it’s dry here… I planted in April so it wasn’t too hot yet. planting seed in the hot months probably isn’t the best idea but who knows I’m sure it would work. Anyway, you can’t underwater or overwater… keep the soil moist. Id water for ten minutes in the morning & ten minutes at noon. Repeat until you see it start to grow. Once it’s more grown in, use your discretion, id say 3 days a week minimum. Mine started to grow after a couple weeks… I was shocked lol I wasn’t sure if it would work. Then it popped off! Grew a bunch. Looks great to me, it’s super hot and dry now so if it doesn’t rain I water most mornings

East Coast/ NC Area Blue Grass 15lb Bag

So I didn’t do enough research before reseeding my grass. Apparently spring is not the best time to reseed your lawn. Fall is. Just putting that disclaimer out there for people who say this doesn’t work when they’re simply doing it during the wrong time of year. I reside in NC and I’m the “last state along the border” that this seed is good for. So north and north east states only! That’s important!I saw grass sprouts within 2 days despite my lack of research. I was so excited. There were a couple of places where the seeds didn’t take. My assumption is that some of our spring rain washed the seeds away. Or my prep work (aerating) was lacking in some areas. Or both. We also have mixed soil- dirt and sand. So there are some areas I will be retouching. However I’ve been following the care directions carefully and about 90% of my lawn has cute short grass all over it. I’m not giving up. I acknowledge that my mixed soil and seeding during the wrong season is what was holding back that 100% perfection. It’s been a full month and my grass has really grown more than expected, I will be posting before and afters with my second bag with progress photos.P.S. if you have dogs you absolutely do not want them on the grass before that 3”. If you have diggers then you will have to leash walk them while your grass is growing (if you want your grass back that bad). If your dog has to go potty out back, be sure to spray down their pee and pick up their poop immediately! You will not get the best results unless you keep your lawn spotless. This mean raking fallen leaves as well!Hope my self educated learning tips helped. Read read read directions and research!(Also my backyard is about 24×24’ and the 15 lb bag was more than enough, I even overseeded in some areas and I’m glad I did)

Great patching seed, at a good delivered price.

If you need a five pound bag of good seed and fertilizer, this is for you. i had a card table size bare patch in my lawn that needed grass. The seed was fresh, and I had a lot left. Now I can patch other areas in my yard. This was a good value, and easy to handle and spread.

It grew great. Prep work and TLC probably helped.

The Turf Builder sun and shade worked well on bare spots. I overseeded the rest with Thick’R Lawn at the same time too. I like the blue color. It made it easy to see how much I was laying down and what still had yet to germinate. It spread easily with a Scotts rotary speedy green and handheld Wizz. I saw new blades poking through in the shady areas by the front walk by the 3rd day. Sunny areas took longer but got there. I have since bought two more bags of this to fill in some spots and fix other areas. Good price in this 7000 sq ft size bag. The grass seems like nice grass in texture and appearance. Just what I was looking for.Was it easy to grow? I don’t know if any seed is easy to grow without a lot of luck. I didn’t just throw seed and hope. Prep included pre-watering to saturation, plug aeration, dethatching, and spreading 2,000 lbs of compost over the bare spots. It took a few days of work in prep. Seed down and immediately rolled it in on August 22nd in S.E. Michigan. The whole next week was dry and hot in the 90s. I set the DIY above ground sprinkler system to water every hour or two during the heat of the day for 2-3 of those hottest weeks along with some hand watering. If it dries it dies. A month later with a water bill for 20,000 gallons, I had a yard again. Totally worth the effort and expense to me.I had killed off sections of my lawn with glyphosate in an effort to get rid of ugly wide blade perennial coarse tall fescue that has probably been there for 70 years since the house was built. It’s 95% better now and next year I will kill off what more of it I find and then do it again along with another overseeing using this Turf builder. But I might wait until a couple weeks into September next time to save on water. First time doing this. Live and learn.Original photos taken on August 19th and 25th. Seed down was August 22nd. Result photos shown from September 25th.Good seed.
